The Suffield Township Board of Trustees met on Tuesday April 14th. The meeting was closed to the public but was aired on Facebook. Tom Calcei gave the Fire Department report and said that the firefighters had responded to 54 calls for service in March. They also suspended their regular training days. Of interest was a statistic that showed 13 EMS calls for breathing problems. These may have had COVID-19 implications. As it turned out, two of these patients did indeed test positive for COVID-19 virus. Good news, however, was that none of the Suffield firefighters have been infected with the potentially lethal virus. Calcei suggested that the trustees adopt a procedure to assist fire employees who might contract the COVID-19 virus while on duty with the township. The plan adopted will pay the affected employee for the two weeks they they would be required to self quarantine. This pay would be determined by taking their average two-week pay based on their last six months of service.
Trustee Jeff Eldreth said that storm last week that blew through Suffield caused some downed trees, particularly on Palm Road. He praised our Road Department and the Brimfield Road Department for their hard work in cleaning up the mess.
Trustee Jared Phillip said the Zoning Commission has canceled meetings, but that the Board of Zoning Appeals will conduct a meeting next Tuesday April 21st at 7:00 PM. This meeting will be aired live on the internet. If interested, you must contact Lori Calcei to be "invited" to the meeting. By doing this, she will send you instructions on how to view the meeting and to be able to make comments.
Trustee Tom Calcei said that the annual Suffield League Memorial Day Parade is very likely to be canceled, but no final decision has been reached as of today. We'll let you know when we know. Calcei also said that the 140 American flags that line the downtown area are in need of replacement. The Suffield League is hoping that citizens and businesses make donations to replace the flags, which tend to have a five year lifespan. These flags, which are of good quality and are made in America, are $20.00 each. Do your part and buy a flag, which will become the property of the Suffield League. Call Tom Calcei at 330-256-8042 for more information.
The next trustee meeting will be Tuesday April 28th at 7:00 AM and will be aired live on Facebook.
