Girls Basketball

Falcons End Season With OT Loss To Triway, Mogadore Girls Lose To LCCS

The Field girls opened the OHSAA tournament with Triway on Saturday February 15th and came away losers by a 39-38 score in overtime.  Not much seemed to go right for the Falcons, who played their second game without the vacationing Sydney Kline. Cassie Spaite got the start and did hit two three pointers that were sorely needed.  Maria Sziva scored 22 points, but shot about a million times to do so.  She was 11 of 14 at the free throw line.  Field closes out the season at 13-10, while Triway moves on with a 9-14 record.

Mogadore (7-15) closed out their regular season with a 42-38 loss to Lake Center Christian School on Wednesday February 12th.  The loss dropped the Wildcat girls to 7-15 on the year and 3-9 in the Portage Trail Conference County Division race.  Carley Hickle had 13 points for Mogadore.  The Wildcats open their OHSAA tournament run with a home game against Jeromesville-Hillsdale on Wednesday February 19th at 7:00 PM.

The drawings for the OHSAA tournament were done on Sunday February 2nd.  Field was seeded #8 in the Uniontown Division II District.  They will play #9 seeded Triway on Saturday February 15th at 1:00 PM in Brimfield.   The Mogadore girls are seeded #8 in the Creston Division IV District and will play #9 seeded Jeromesville-Hillsdale on Wednesday February 19th at 7:00 PM in Mogadore.

Boys Basketball

Field Destroys Springfield 64-41, Mogadore Blasts Windham 97-57

The Field Falcons (3-18) celebrated Senior Night by thoroughly whipping Springfield 64-41 before a fairly large and very partisan crowd.  Seniors Nevada Lowden and Mason Campanelli led the way of the Falcons.  Campanelli scored 12, as did junior Zack Davis.  Sophomore Xander Rorrer added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.  Earlier in the year, the Falcons went to Springfield and lost by a 40-38 score in a game that termed as ugly.  The win is Field's third of the year and it raises their Portage Trail Conference Metro Division record to 2-11.  Field closes out the regular season by taking that long trip two counties away to play Cloverleaf in Lodi on Friday February 21st at 7:00 PM.

The Mogadore (17-3) won their 8th straight with an impressive 97-57 win over the Windham Bombers on Saturday February 15th.  Everyone on the Mogadore team played and most scored.  Lukas Swartz hit another seven three pointers and finished with 29 points, this coming after Friday night's 34 points and eight three pointers.  Also in double figures for the Wildcats were Aaron Morris, who seems to have found his three point range again, and David Wolverton, who had 14 points, including two three pointers.  The Wildcats play at home against the Ravenna Ravens on Tuesday February 18th at 7:00 PM.

The boys OHSAA tournament drawings were held on February 9th and the Field Falcons were the #13 seed in the Stow Division II District.  They will open the tourney at #4 seeded Gilmour Academy on Tuesday February 25th at 7:00 PM.   Mogadore drew the #2 seed in the Norton Division IV District and will open with a home game against the winner of the Rittman (#7 Seed) and Cuyahoga Heights (#10 seed) game.  Mogadore's game will be on Friday February 28th at 7:00 PM.

Trustees Name Bryon Wine To Tax Incentive Review Council

A longtime figure in Suffield Township politics, Paul Young, recently moved from the township to Hartville and has resigned his seat on the Tax Incentive Review Council.  The Suffield Township Board of Trustees on January 14th appointed Bryon Wine to fill Young's vacant seat.  The TIRC meets yearly, or as needed, to review tax abatements that have been negotiated between a business and the Portage County Board of Commissioners.

BZA Elects Andy Grow Chairman For 2020

The Suffield Township Board of Zoning Appeals met on Tuesday January 21st  for their annual Re-organizational Meeting and elected new officers for 2020.  Taking some sound advice from long-time member Don Monroe, the BZA elected Andy Grow as chairman and Vickie Vincent as vice chairman.  A hearing on property located at 1205 Martin Road followed with the Board granting a variance to Gerald Altizer, allowing him to purchase property from his neighbor and combine it with his lot, thus creating one larger parcel.  The BZA voted 5-0 in favor of this matter.

Zoning Commission Re-Organizes For 2020

The Suffield Township Zoning Commission met on Wednesday January 8th for their regular monthly meeting and for their annual Re-Organizational meeting.  The Commission elected John Yeargin as its Chairman and Jim Lutz as their Vice Chairman.

License Plate Renewals

When buying new license plates, or renewing them, be sure the registrar at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles knows that you live in Suffield Township.  If you simply state your address as Mogadore, the road tax funds, which should go to Suffield Township, will go to Mogadore Village, due to your zip code.  Keep your tax money in the township!

Wingfoot Lake State Park

wingfoot lake state park 20150623 1970716186

Wingfoot Lake State Park is Suffield's only park.   It was opened by the Ohio State Parks & Recreation Department in 2009.  Goodyear had operated the park since the 1960's as a private playground for its employees and for corporate retreats.  As the company footprint grew smaller in the Akron area Goodyear decided to close the park in 2006.  To learn more about the park, such as rental of the facilities, visit the park's website:  http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/wingfootlake

Town Hall Rental

The historic Suffield Town Hall can be rented by residents and non-residents for various events.  For complete information on the availability, costs and regulations on renting the Town Hall, please call the Town Hall administrator Shannon Eldreth at 330-807-0384.
