Field Boys Lose to Ravens 55-35, Mogadore Boys Beat Ravenna 76-57
On Friday February 15th, the Field Falcon (4-18) closed out the regular season with an unexpected loss to the Ravenna Ravens (5-15) 55-37. Earlier in January the Falcons had traveled to Ravenna and beat the Ravens 59-52. Bryson Silveous had 12 points for the Falcons. The Falcons have eleven days to prepare for their first playoff game at Alliance.
On Tuesday February 19th the Mogadore Wildcats (14-6) went to Ravenna (5-16) and beat the Ravens by a 76-57 score. Lukas Swartz scored 25 points, while Kyle Coffman added 22 and Connor Kerr scored 13. The Wildcats play again this Friday in the big Portage Trail Conference County Division showdown in Hartville against the Lake Center Christian Tigers. They then play on Saturday February 23rd at the Quicken Loans Arena against the Bombers of Windham.
The drawings for the 2019 OHSAA tournament were held on Sunday February 10th. Field was seeded #13 in the Division II Canton District and will play the Alliance Aviators in Alliance on Tuesday February 26th at 7:00 PM. Mogadore is in the Division III Salem District and will play the winner of the Rootstown/Columbiana Crestview game on Friday March 1st at 7:00 PM in Mogadore.
Field Girls Edge Akron East 42-36, Advance In Tournament, Mogadore Girls Suffer 20th Loss
On Saturday February 16th the Field Falcons (15-8) hosted the Dragons of Akron East (8-12) and beat them for the second time this season. This time, however, the 42-36 win advances them to the Sectional finals. The Falcons had an awful third quarter, but they rallied in the fourth frame and won. Katie Feller had a great game with 17 points, while Maria Sziva had 11 points. The Falcons travel to Norton on Thursday February 21st for a 7:00 PM game.
On Saturday February 16th the Mogadore wrapped up the regular season with a loss at home to the Carrollton Warriors 49-31. The Wildcats were led by Carley Hickle with ten points. Mogadore was 2-20 for the season, including an 0-12 Portage Trail Conference County Division. Carrollton goes to 5-17. Mogadore opens the tournament at Ashland Mapleton on Wednesday February 20th at 7:00 PM.
Board of Zoning Appeals Approves Two Requests
The Suffield Township Board of Zoning Appeals met on Tuesday February 5th. They heard from John Kassinger who wanted to put a construction company, among other things, on the property at 1188 State Route 43. The Board heard his request and voted 5-0 to grant a conditional use permit. The Board then heard a request from Transitional Healthcare Solutions and a spirited response in opposition to allowing a residential house at 2094 Randolph Road to be used as a "residential care facility for seniors". The Board voted 4-1 to approve the variance.
Historical Society To Hear County Recorder Lori Calcei
The Suffield Township Historical Society will hold a short business meeting on Monday February 18th at 6:30 PM, to be followed by presentation by County Recorder Lori Calcei, who will speak on new programs and services offered by the Recorder's Office. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
Laugh At The Lake Is Saturday March 2nd
The annual Laugh at the Lake, presented by the Suffield League is Saturday March 2nd at the Paradise Lake County Club. Some tickets are still available. For tickets, call Tom Calcei at 330-256-8042 or Kyle Kreiner at 330-628-1580.
License Plate Renewals
When buying new license plates, or renewing them, be sure the registrar at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles knows that you live in Suffield Township. If you simply state your address as Mogadore, the road tax funds, which should go to Suffield Township, will go to Mogadore Village, due to your zip code. Keep your tax money in the township!
Suffield Township Website Passes 295,000 Visitors Since April 1, 2015
As of February 3, 2018, Suffield Township's website had 295,351 visitors since April 1, 2015. Since the "new" website was adopted, the daily viewership has risen from about 40 per day to over 436.25 per day. Thanks for taking a look at "suffieldtownshipohio.com". Tell your friends about us.
Wingfoot Lake State Park is Suffield's only park. It was opened by the Ohio State Parks & Recreation Department in 2009. Goodyear had operated the park since the 1960's as a private playground for its employees and for corporate retreats. As the company footprint grew smaller in the Akron area Goodyear decided to close the park in 2006.
