The Suffield Township Board of Trustees met Thursday November 9th in place of their regularly scheduled November 14th meeting. Trustee chairman Dave Vartenuk announced that the long awaited Sheriff's Sale on the derelict house at 1560 Carriage House has finally been scheduled for Monday November 27th. This is definitely a move in the right direction in order to get the house demolished. New inspections will follow and a public hearing to again declare the premises unfit for habitation will come probably the first part of 2018. The trustees acknowledged that the stalling tactics by both the previous owner and the bank, coupled with the mandatory waiting periods has enabled this community eyesore to still exist. But there appears to be a growing light at the end of the tunnel.
The trustees also learned that the Board of Zoning Appeals hearing on some improvements to Paradise Lake Country Club will be changed from November 16th to November 30th at 8:00 PM. Trustee Jeff Eldreth said that the township's roadside mower is in need of repairs. In other business, the trustees rearranged their meeting dates for the remainder of 2017, and also the locations of the meetings. The trustees had previously entered into an agreement to rent the Administration Building to Lauren Luli beginning in January of 2018, but that has been changed to allow her to move her real estate office in to the building on December 1st of 2017. The trustees will meet on Tuesday November 28th at 7:00 AM in the Fire House Community Room, then Tuesday December 12th at 8:00 PM in the Fire House Community Room, and on Friday December 29th at 8:00 PM in the Fire House Community Room. The December 29th meeting will actually be comprised of the normal trustees meeting and also the "year end" meeting, which is necessary to close down the financial books for 2017. No date has been set for the 2018 "re-organizational meeting".
Additionally, the Zoning Commission will next meet on Wednesday December 13th at 7:00 PM, this also in the Fire House Community Room. The Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on November 16th at 8:30 PM in the Administration Building to hear a request by Tim Dettling of 1792 Skylark Drive for a variance to build a larger-than-allowed accessory building. The Board of Zoning Appeals will also have a hearing on Thursday November 30th at 8:00 PM in the Fire House Community Room on a request by Paradise Lake Country Club to allow them to use some acreage for a driving range and sod farm on land that is not zoned for such use.
