05-02-2017....FIELD SCHOOL LEVY FAILS AGAIN
According to the final canvas of the Board of Elections on Tuesday evening, the Field Local Schools District levy has failed again. This time 3,131 voters went to the polls to vote on this single issue. The unofficial results were 1,280 for the levy and 1,851 against it. This issue was a five-year levy for 8.3 mills. Last November the Field Local Schools District voters turned down two issues that totaled 7.5 mills by a 57%-42% margin. Tonight's margin was 59%-40%.
Field joined Waterloo Local Schools and the Crestwood Local Schools in turning down levies. The one in Crestwood was a massive bond issue that would have allowed the district to build a new high school. It was turned down by 21 votes, 1,725-1,704. The Ravenna and Aurora city schools passed levies. One other important Portage County race was to decide the fate of Brady Lake as village. Voters there decided to disolve the village by a 106-88 margin.
Today's election in Suffield brought about a change in polling locations. The Suffield Fellowship Church at 1669 Waterloo Road has hosted the elections for quite a few years, but that has changed, for at least this election. If you live in either Precinct A or Precinct B, you now cast your vote at the Suffield United Church of Christ at 1115 State Route 43. Those living in Precinct C, Precinct D or Precinct E now vote at the Suffield Elementary School at 1128 Waterloo Road.
